04 1.8 tDci (100) Dual Mass Flywheel (again) - zolkie : i experience a rattling/ knocking noise every now and again when i start the engine, especially when cold. the car has done almost 60k (focus mk1 54 reg 1.8 tdci 115bps). i have been advised by my mechanic that this is due to DMF failure.
Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help with this. I have searched on Google and found stuff similar, but nothing that exactly describes my issue. Some have been close, but answers have been spark plugs etc and being a diesel it doesn't have any. My focus 1.8 TDCI has been bang on since I got it
Not only has the crank speed increased from 194 rpm to 291 rpm, but the current required (211 amps against 165 amps “average”) to achieve this increase means that more energy is available for other vehicle systems. The signal on the new starter capture is a lot cleaner too.

Yes, due to the CKP getting its signal from the flywheel, and also the backlash associated with a faulty DMF transferring through to the front of the engine ie drive belts, I'd say it was causing most, of not all of your concerns. N. njos Discussion starter. hi there guys. i am having problems with my focus mk1 1.8 tdci 2004. When i start the car there is alot of white smoke which comes out of the exhaust and the car is only running on 3 cylinders. i have to keep my foot on the accelerator for the engine t keep running otherwise the engine will cut out. Once the smoke has cleared the car runs okish.

I have got an intermittent starting problem with my car. Sometimes when I turn the key the solenoid will engage on the starter but the engine doesn't turn over. Usually when this happens it doesn't matter how many times I turn the key the car won't start, however sometimes after 10 or so attempts

There is another thread about the 1.8 TDCI injector problem 1 Quote; Link to comment Ford Model: Focus 1.8 tdci zetec S Ford Year: Fiesta tdci won’t start. Stoney871. The red cog light usually indicates a powertrain fault. I'd get the mechanic to check the O2 sensor and the battery/alternator voltage as sometimes a low voltage can mess up the power control module (PCM) It can also indicate a restriction in the Cat or EGR.

Both times I've been able to reset it by stopping and starting the engine. It's done 141k and is 6.5 years old. Its in the main dealer today, and I asked them to determine what was causing the fault to come

Maybe Ford dropped the ball with the 1.8 TDCI in some respects but there are many people who are happy with the unit. I know Ford have had problems with some of their own diesel units and have taken steps to rectify this (e.g. in the 2007 mondeo the Ford 2.0 TDCI was replaced by the PSA 2.0 HDI as found in the Mark 2 Focus).

Sep 13, 2016. #10. Check the turbo pipes for a split, especially the one on top of the engine.failure of the turbo pipes is very common on this model. You will get lots of black smoke and reduced power. I can't see a problem with the glow plugs causing this fault.
Sorry for late update. Major breakthrough, or so i thought. Unplugged electrical connection (1 of 2) on side of pump. Software then showed zero fuel pressure.
Sunday 17th May 2009. had this problem cutting out, it was an intermittent crank sensor. it senses when to inject the fuel, if its wrong it can cut out. try changing this first cause its cheaper

I have a 2009 1.8TDCi Focus Zetec. Upon checking the engine bay I noticed a badly burnt wire and connector. The car runs as it should when cold, when it gets up to temperature it stutters and large loss of power after 2200rpm. Also a larger than normal cloud of smoke puffs out of the exhaust when it is stuttering.

The issue occurs generally at higher road speeds and gears under acceleration. The fault code is; Fault code: P0251 - Injection pump fuel metering control A malfunction (cam/rotor/injection). Also I have a squeal/screech from the drive belt area (suspected fuel pump) at idle and under load intermittently.
hi guys new to the forum was hoping for some help with a couple of problems. the last 3 mornings when ive gone to turn the key nothing happens no attempt to start but the radio and lights all work so i asume it isnt the battery after a few attempts and looking under the bonnet it starts straight
